Course Design

We use sound instructional principles to create custom courses and other instructional experience for our clients that take into consideration the following:

Why is training needed? What is the overall goal that the training is going to accomplish (knowledge vs. performance)?

Do the learners have prior knowledge of the material? How diverse is the learner population? What level of motivation do learners have?

When will learning take place? Where will it occur (on-site, virtually)? How will it be delivered (in-person, online, via e-learning, in a blended environment)?

Examples of typical training courses that we can design:

Instructor-led classroom or virtual classroom training courses

Courses are designed to be delivered by an instructor either in a physical classroom/training facility or online via a video conferencing application, and may include a combination of the following teaching methods:

– Classroom discussion
– Breakout sessions
– Learning games
– Practical application (e.g. role-plays, simulations, sandbox environment)
– Knowledge checks (e.g. quizzes, exams)

Formats may include any of the common presentation applications (e.g. PowerPoint, Slides, Keynote).

Handouts and workbooks can be provided either in physical or virtual format (e.g. PDF).

E-learning courses

E-learning courses provide the advantage that learners can individually interact with the material on their own time (asynchronous learning).  Effective e-learning includes elements of interactivity:

– Ability to pause, rewind or stop the training to provide time for reflection or clarification
– Inclusion of interactive learning games
– Linking to external resources to allow learning beyond what is included in the course
– Practical application through software simulation
– Easy implementation of multimedia content (i.e. audio content or videos)
– Knowledge checks (after individual lessons and/or at the conclusion of the course)

Training Videos

Instructional videos have become a popular training method not only on YouTube but also for organizations that make them available on their own platforms to their employees or associates. Benefits include:

– Flexibility to watch them at anytime
– Ability to pause, rewind, stop the presentation and return to it at a later time
– Great for those who prefer visual learning
– Powerful learning tool in conjunction with the above-mentioned methods
